Midrange - Shichahai Shadow Art Performance Hotel is a great option in this price category and features pleasant Chinese-themed public spaces; a variety of room sizes, from cozy singles to spacious family suites; and many amenities, including a café and concierge service (and yes, free shadow puppet shows, too).
Budget - Beijing Downtown Travelotel offers clean, comfortable accommodations along with a variety of tour options, all just steps away from the Imperial City.
Food
Breakfast - There are many delicious popular breakfast options in Beijing. Try out the fried dough sticks called Yóutiáo, or a crunchy crepe like wrap called jiānbǐng. You can always find steamed buns filled with everything from pork to egg custard to red bean paste.
Lunch - Find lunch on the go at any number of streetside vendors. We recommend trying a chinese hamburger, ròujiāmóu. Or get Beijing's specialty noodles, a dish called Zhájiàng miàn.
Dinner - You can't talk about food in Beijing without mentioning Beijing duck (also called Peking duck due to how Chinese characters used to be romanized). This dish is perfect for sharing with a travel companion or you can look for restaurants that offer half duck options. Be sure to watch a video on how to properly eat it though!
